We all know the saying “the good die young”? Well that saying has proven itself true once again.

We experienced a deep loss on Saturday March 28th, 2026. James Wesley Cheeves Jr, better known to us all as “Bubba”, passed away on that day at the age of 37.

Bubba as most remember was like a big ol’teddy bear. Sweet, soft spirited and loving. He loved his family to no end probably as much as he loved Pepsi.

Some of his fondest memories were time spent with his family, as a kid playing with his sister and their cousins, hunting with his daddy, spending time with his mama in the kitchen AND….. his nephews, man he loved those boys!

He had been looking forward to spending time in the woods again with his daddy and had hopes of traveling to the beach, but the Good Lord had bigger plans for him.

While our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Bubba’s gentle soul is now at peace. He may have left us far too soon, but the love he gave and that trademark ‘teddy bear’ spirit will stay with us forever.

We don’t have to look far to find him; he’s in every rustle of the woods, every crashing wave at the shore, and every memory of a life lived with a soft heart and a big smile.

Rest easy, Bubba. You were truly one of the good ones.”

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the 37 years we had with Bubba. We thank you for his soft spirit and the way he loved his family. We ask that you watch over him as he roams your heavens, wild and free. May he find the best deer stands in the woods of paradise and the most peaceful shores on your eternal beaches. Lord, wrap your arms around his daddy, his sister, and all those who miss him today. Grant us the peace that passes all understanding until we see him again. Amen

He is preceded in death by his mother, Angela Williams; paternal grandparents, maternal grandfather, and his uncles.

He is survived by his father, James Cheeves, Sr. and his sister, Jamie Leigh Cheeves; maternal grandmother, aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins.
