Grand Rapids, Michigan

Nashville, Tennessee
Kevin Douglas Di Piazza, born on October 30, 1956, in Grand Rapids, Michigan passed away in Nashville, Tennessee on December 15, 2025. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Frank Eugene and Dorothy Mae Di Piazza, and his brother, Frank Di Piazza. Kevin graduated from Muskegon (MI) High School in 1974 and thought fondly and often
about his time as a Big Red. After high school, Kevin proudly served four years in the United States Air Force as a radio communications specialist. He then attended Ferris
State College in Big Rapids, Michigan using the GI Bill to earn a degree in data processing.
Kevin initially built a successful career as a consultant, traveling across the U.S. and Canada installing payroll systems for major companies like the Canadian railroad, Bell Labs, and Fairchild Republic. Over the past decade, Kevin worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs in both Middle Tennessee and Detroit, continuing his lifelong
commitment to service before retiring in June.
In his personal life, Kevin showed incredible resilience. Two of Kevin’s greatest strengths were his authenticity and determination, sometimes referred to as his “stubbornness”.
Kevin enjoyed rereading Louis L’Amour novels, and watching old movies, reruns of NCIS, and University of Michigan Football. He knew a great deal about astronomy and
Greek mythology. Kevin always had a coffee mug or a soft drink in hand. He loved good authentic Italian food, although he said his mom’s spaghetti was by far the best. Kevin found comfort and peace by soaking in the sun and swimming. He was a regular at the neighborhood pool and loved Lake Michigan. He enjoyed his yearly visits to the
Muskegon area to reminisce and meet up with old friends and family. Kevin truly appreciated life’s simple moments and valued quiet time alone and with those he loved,
especially “Suzy” whom he had known since age 11.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his sister, Deirdre Kohley (Alan); his daughter, Cydney Domsic (Jeff); his stepdaughter, Carly Southworth (Enrique); his stepson, Matthew Southworth (Heather); his grandchild, Esther; and five step-grandchildren, Autumn, Noah, Olivia, Dawson, and Leo. Kevin is loved and will be deeply missed by his family and so many friends.
After Kevin passed, Alive Hospice provided him with a processional honoring his miliary service, during which staff stood at attention while the Air Force anthem played. As the anthem goes, “Off we go into the wild blue yonder, climbing high into the sun.” May those who knew and loved him find comfort in knowing Kevin is now in heaven – the
most beautiful yonder.

I love you, Mary
My memory of Kevin comes from his beloved wife, Suzanne, whose love for him abounds. Blessings of comfort to the entire family.
Suzanne, I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences. I worked with Kevin in the mid 80s putting in the first payroll system at Bellcore. When you work closely with someone 12 hours a day 6-7 days a week for 6 months you become close. I have memories of what a great technician he was, but more importantly what a great person and friend he was. Everyone loved Kevin. Suzanne, when I got a chance to meet you in Nashville a number of years ago you said “you were the best thing that happened to Kevin “. YES YOU WERE. I follow you guys on facebook and I saw how happy he has been since he’s been with you. He sent me your first sermon. He loved you so much and was so proud of you. God Bless.
The thin kid that played and marched with that big tuba in the Bunker Jr. High Band.
Riding the bus downtown with you, Earl and I to shop and eat hotdogs at the G&L. Including the time when you shared with Earl and I that Deirdre taught you to say, “under the bed sheets” after reading the name each of the songs in the jukebox. Hilarious !
The many times going to Pere Marquette Beach with the gang. Once even running the length of the South Breakwater wall at night to reach the lighthouse while dodging the big waves.
Receiving in the mail a picture of you with your new AirForce haircut….”look no hair” and that look on your face that you got scalped.
The time you gave Kathy and I your hotel room on our wedding night because ours was cancelled due to the hotel over booking and people wouldn’t leave.
Your easy going personality, especially when you would call and I would say, “Kevin, do you know what time it is?…….it’s almost midnight!” and you would say, “yes, but it’s only 9:00 in California”.
Seeing the change in you, your settling down after you married the love of your life, Suzy.
Getting together over the years, even if it was less frequently. Many of the conversations always led back to great times now long gone, as well as what’s been happening lately. It was always like the years between never mattered.
Kevin, you left us way too soon…..you’ll be sorely missed, but these memories of those times will live on.
Rest in peace, my friend.
My sincere condolences to Kevin’s family. Kevin and I grew up in the same neighborhood and were part of a large group of children who played together. I remember him as a mischievous little boy, and I love seeing that he accomplished so much in his life.
