Resided in: Nashville, Tennessee

Mary Louise Winer, 90, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026.

Born in Tyler, Texas, on June 7, 1936, Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Teeple) Compton. She was known affectionately to nearly everyone as “Memaw.”

She loved cooking, sharing a good cup of coffee, and trying new restaurants with her husband and grandchildren. Whether it was a home-cooked meal or a new restaurant, she simply enjoyed good food and the time spent with those she loved. Though not many knew it, Mary was a gifted watercolor artist.

Mary touched many lives with her thoughtfulness and love. She retired from Vanderbilt University after an extensive career, including many years as Administrative Director for the American Economic Association.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald Alan Winer, and her sister, Josephine Dungan.

Her love and resilient spirit live on through her family. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Paul) Albert and Dana (Mike) Ragan; her son, Tony Bobo; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Yuiko) Coleman, Caleb (Lexi) Ragan, and Heather (Matthew) Lynn; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Mary’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11:00am, at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, Mausoleum on Hwy 100. Friends may visit with the family at the conclusion of service.
