Daniel Ray Simmons

July 28, 1959 ~ August 4, 2025
Born in:
Akron, Ohio
Resided in:
Vanleer, Tennessee
Daniel Ray Simmons, age 66, of Vanleer, TN passed away unexpectedly on August 4th. Dan was born July 28th, 1959 in Akron, OH to Donald Simmons and Virginia (Borton) Laase. As a rebellious boy being raised in Massillon, OH he often caused his mother fits laughter and frustration; a theme throughout his life. A life summed up by telling jokes, ornery antics, and huge belly laughs.
After attending Massillon Christian School, Dan enlisted in the Army at 17 years old. Having served in Germany, Dan was honorably discharged in 1980.
Dan was a musician and singer, leading local band, The Backwaters Band in the 80s and continued to share his love of music with his community and family any chance he could.
A hardworking man his whole life, Dan retired from his HVAC business and moved to Tennessee in 2023 to be closer to his granddaughters. Teaching them guitar, watching westerns, and good-natured ribbing between them became his new job. Papaw will certainly be missed by all.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Donald. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Brenda (Stinchcomb); his sons Daniel (Paula) Simmons and Jeremy Simmons; his mother Virginia (Borton) Laase; siblings Darla (Tim) Wentz, Terri (Rick) Simmons, and David Gallagher. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
