Darryl Northern

June 24, 1954 – September 17, 2025

Tacoma, WA

Darryl Bruce Northern was born June 24, 1954, in Nashville, Tennessee, and passed away in Tacoma, Washington, after an extended illness on September 17, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Elijah and Nancy Pugh, and paternal grandparents, Robert “Ted” and Mildred Northern.  He is survived by two sons, Jon (Jess) Northern of Iron Mountain, Michigan, and Geoffrey Northern of Puyallup, Washington; two grandsons, Joe Northern and Koda Northern; parents, Robert Northern and Bettie Reynolds; sisters, Kris (Marshall) Allen and Millie Northern; and a host of extended family and friends.

Darryl graduated from Bellevue High School and earned the God and Country Award while in Boy Scouts.  He moved to Puyallup, Washington in 2008.  Darryl’s faith and family were most important to him.  He was an inspiration to many people who couldn’t understand how a person who, after losing both legs, could have such a positive outlook.  Darryl shared that he had a solid belief in his Lord Jesus Christ, realizing that this life was just the preparation for his eternal destination with his Lord and Savior, Jesus.

Darryl loved fishing from his early years in Tennessee up until his last years in the Pacific Northwest.  He had a life-long interest in history, and had been involved in re-enactments, volunteer work and education, as well as family history research.

For those wishing to honor Darryl’s memory, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
