Hollie Whitmore (Hitchcock) Potts, aged 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee, after bravely enduring a long battle with cancer. Born on February 23, 1946, in Seymour, Indiana, Hollie spent her childhood moving to various locations across the country, as a member of a military family.
Hollie is survived by her devoted husband, Archie Potts, her son, Sonnie Potts, and her daughter, Erin Kavanaugh. She leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Emma Kavanaugh. Hollie is also survived by her siblings, Jessie Jean (Hitchcock) Pustis, and John Hitchcock. She was predeceased by her father, Lt. Col. John Whitmore Hitchcock (USAF), and her mother, Jean (Tuttle) Hitchcock of Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Hollie attended Tullahoma High School for a brief period before graduating from Long Island High School in New York. After returning to Nashville, Tennessee, she began her career as a secretary and, through hard work and dedication, ultimately rose to the position of Vice-President at Sound Seventy Productions.
Driven by a passion to help others, Hollie returned to college to pursue a career in nursing. She earned her Associate Degree from Aquinas Junior College (1991), her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Belmont University (1993), and her Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University (1995), with a specialization in psychiatric geriatrics. Her passion was helping others whether it was through nursing, volunteering or through various Church ministries.
She enjoyed attending Mass daily at St. Ann Catholic Church, where she was known as an active and cherished member of the parish.
A funeral mass honoring Hollie Whitmore Potts will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church on Monday, November 17, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Michael Fye, Celebrant. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the St. Ann Parish Life Center on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additionally, visitation will be available at the church on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 9:50 a.m., preceding the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to honor Hollie’s memory. Contributions may be directed to MOVE Inclusive Dance or St. Ann Catholic School.
