Thomas “Tommy” Larry Hazelwood, passed away peacefully Friday, January 9th, 2026 in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 83. Tom is survived by Phyllis Hazelwood (wife), his children Kevin Hazelwood (Asfira), Diane Stewart (Rick), Patrick Hazelwood (Monica), and his stepson Charles “Buster” Nickens (Lacey). He is survived by his grandchildren Cole Stewart (Naomi), Daniella Hazelwood, Quinlyn Hazelwood, Greyson Hazelwood, Hatcher Hazelwood, Addison Hazelwood, McKinley Hazelwood, Brody Huddleston, and Brinley Huddleston. He also has three great grandchildren Jameson Stewart, Declan Stewart, and Cillian Stewart and his sister Sandra Brumit. He is preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Mary Hazelwood, and his brothers George, Bob, Buck, Feathers and his baby sister.
Tom was born on November 29th, 1942 in Nashville, Tennessee, to Isaac and Mary Hazelwood. Tom went to Cumberland High School and later went to serve in the Navy from 1962 to 1965. He retired after 25 years as the Captain with the Seattle Fire Department.
Tom was a devoted member of Scottsboro First Baptist Church. His commitment to his faith was evident in the way he lived each day, cherishing his relationship with the Lord above all else.
Tom also deeply valued his family, finding true joy and purpose in the time he spent with them.
He loved to golf, travel and work on the farm.
Guided by his faith, Tom was always eager to help those around him. He consistently offered support and kindness to anyone in need, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or a compassionate ear. Through his actions, Tom’s dedication to service touched the lives of many and left a lasting impact on his community.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2026, at Scottsboro First Baptist Church, 5253 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, TN 37218 with Pastor Sam Davis and Pastor Gene Grace officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors to follow at Hazelwood Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held on Friday prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Scottsboro First Baptist Church.
