In Loving Memory of a Truly Remarkable Woman, Vicki Hammock

Born on December 25, 1950, and departing this world on April 25, 2026, our beloved Vicki lived a life that felt a little like a Christmas gift that kept on giving—warm, generous, and full of quiet magic.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bette Ernestine Hullet and Otis Chester Sells, her brother, Richard Hurlburt, and her grandson, Tanner Neal Hall.

She leaves behind her devoted husband of 60+ years, Clinton Bruce Hammock, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventures—from weekend car shows to a memorable trip to Colorado to visit Pikes Peak; her daughter, Kristie Hall; her son-in-law, Woody; Woody’s brother, Adam Hall; her cherished grandson, Peyton Bruce Hall; and her ever-faithful little sidekick, Lacy Lulu, who rarely left her side and took her job as “constant companion” very seriously. She will also be deeply missed by Scout, Waffles, Mocha, and Maggie, who will surely notice the absence of her never-ending treats—and wonder who will now keep track of all the tennis balls in the house. She is also survived by extended family including a whole slew of cousins, nieces, and nephews, and her dear best friend, Rita Stanley, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Vicki had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and just a little bit better than when they arrived. As a retired hair stylist, she spent years not only perfecting curls and trims but also offering a listening ear, a kind word, and occasionally the kind of honest advice you didn’t ask for—but probably needed. Her chair wasn’t just a place for a haircut; it was a place for friendship, laughter, and sometimes a little therapy.

She was also known far and wide for her cooking—meals that brought people together and kept them coming back for seconds (and thirds). Her fried chicken had a way of making everything feel right with the world, her fried cornbread and mac and cheese were staples of comfort, and her sugar cookies and banana pudding could turn any ordinary day into a celebration. And every Christmas, her special peanut brittle was lovingly made and generously shared, becoming a tradition many looked forward to all year long.

Thanksgiving held a special place in her heart. She loved gathering her family and friends around the table, and everyone knew the true star of the meal was her famous cornbread dressing. It was more than just food—it was her way of showing love, and those moments together were among her most treasured.

When she wasn’t cooking or caring for others, you could find her with a good book or out in her yard tending to her beautiful flowers. She had a way with plants—everything seemed to grow a little brighter under her care. It turns out, people did too.

She was the kind of friend everyone hopes to have: the one who shows up, pitches in, and quietly helps without ever needing recognition. Many were touched by her kindness, often without even knowing it was her behind the scenes making things better.

She loved deeply, laughed easily, and gave generously—sometimes all in the same afternoon. And while we’ll miss her more than words can hold, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on in every act of kindness, every shared laugh, every home-cooked meal, and every blooming flower.

In true form, she’d probably want us to keep this simple—and maybe remind us not to fuss too much. So in her honor, hug your people a little tighter, help someone when no one’s watching, and if your hair looks a mess… well, she would have had something to say about that.

She was one of a kind, and oh, how lucky we were.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, May 3rd, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Pegram Community Club at the Depot, 453 Thompson Road, Pegram, TN.
