Andrew "Andy" Riley Barrett

Andrew “Andy” Riley Barrett of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed peacefully on April 20, 2023. He was 84 years of age. The son of Andy Riley Barrett and Olivia Dieterich Barrett, Andy was born in Maysville, Kentucky on July 20, 1938, at his grandparents’ home. After attending Charleston (WV) High School (class of 1956), Andy went on to West Virginia University where he served as a member of the Army National Guard and joined the Alpha Theta chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. For over 50 years, Andy built his real estate business through creativity, authenticity, and lovingkindness. He was among the first to be designated a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) in Hendersonville, TN and often achieved top sales accolades throughout his career. Chatty, generous, and given to pranks, Andy never let business spoil an opportunity to have fun—or to help someone in need. His biggest asset was that he loved people, and always valued relationships and connection over anything else. Beyond his work life, he was a longtime member of the Sertoma Club and Chamber of Commerce. He spent many hours coaching little league baseball, soccer, and basketball. His favorite hobbies were eating, reading, and talking on the phone. As a deacon, Andy was quick to invite everyone to Bluegrass Baptist Church (now Indian Lake Peninsula Church), which he supported from its earliest years. He and his wife served for many years as mission leaders of its youth programs, and he is remembered by many as an influence in their lives through his kind example. Although he struggled to carry a tune, it never stopped him from singing joyfully in church. Andy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marcella Austin Barrett, along with his children, Kristi Giemza (Bryan), Austin Barrett (Kristen) and Andrew Barrett (Amanda), as well as his grandchildren John Paul, Jake, Riley, Vera Rose, Brody, Zachary, Cora and Adeline. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Towne Barrett McDaniel. Visitation will be held at Indian Lake Peninsula Church, 235 Indian Lake Road in Hendersonville, TN from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 6. Memorial Service will be held immediately following at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Habitat for Humanity (www.habitat.org/support) or Indian Lake Peninsula Church (www.ilpc.church/give).
