Brenda Humphries Martin, age 78, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024.
She was born on August 15,1945 in Orlando, Florida to the late Esther Rewis Cain and Sam Braswell Humphries. Brenda grew up in Bowling Green, Kentucky where she attended The Training School, College High, and Western Kentucky University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. After earning her teaching certificate from Western Kentucky, Brenda was also awarded her silver wings and spent five years as an American Airlines stewardess. Brenda was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Nashville, and spent her life being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her greatest joys were her family and doing for others.
Brenda was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charles C. Martin, Jr.; brother Samuel B. Humphries; stepfather Frank Davis Cain. She is survived by her two daughters Meredith Meyer (Jason) and Courtney Sachtleben (Paul); four grandchildren Isabel Sachtleben, Mackenzie Meyer, Madeline Meyer and Sarah Martin Sachtleben; sister Barbara Humphries Vick (John).
Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, June 4th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in The Cheek House at First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN, 37220, followed by a memorial service beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Nashville Humane Association, 213 Oceola Avenue, Nashville, TN 37209, or The Harpeth Hall School, 3801 Hobbs Road, Nashville, TN 37215.
