Charles Clifton Martin, Jr., age 84, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born on September 30, 1939, to the late Ruth and Charles C. Martin, Sr.

A native Nashvillian, Charley attended Woodmont Elementary, Hillsboro High School and Vanderbilt University where he was a member of the ROTC and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Upon graduation from Vanderbilt, he entered the army where he served as lieutenant. Following active duty, he came back to Nashville where he returned to the family business at Frost-Arnett Company. He earned his law degree at night from Nashville School of Law. From there, he rose through the ranks and became a leader in the family business, ultimately becoming Chairman of the Board at Frost-Arnett Company. Throughout his life he was committed to his community through many different organizations including the Nashville Consumer Credit Association (President), Southeast Credit Association (Chairman), Exchange Club of Nashville (Officer), YMCA Foundation (Board Member), Chairman of the EAR Foundation, Franklin Road Academy Board of Directors and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church.

Charley was survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda Martin; two daughters Meredith Meyer (Jason) and Courtney Sachtleben (Paul); four grandchildren Isabel Sachtleben, Mackenzie Meyer, Madeline Meyer and Sarah Martin Sachtleben; sister Barbara Merz (Glen).

Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, December 28th from 10:30-11:45 am in Courtenay Hall at First Presbyterian Church followed by a memorial service beginning at 12:00 pm in the Sanctuary. Honorary pallbearers are Don Brothers, Charlie Bryan, John Cobb, John Crawford, Craig Fry, Tad Gardner, John Groomes, Bruce Hammond, Al Johnson, Ron Knox, Pete Langfitt, Charlie Leech, Will Long, Mike McNally, Bob Napier and Derril Reeves.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the YMCA Foundation of Middle Tennessee, 1000 Church Street, Nashville, TN 37203 or First Presbyterian Church of Nashville 4815 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN 37220.
