December 5, 1950 ~ August 21, 2024

Born in: Charlotte, North Carolina
Resided in: Brentwood, Tennessee

Cindy passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024. She was born a beautiful, curly-haired, blue-eyed baby girl to Emma Louise and James Swann Baird. She came into this world on December 4, 1950, and was named Cynthia Louise Baird.

Cindy had an outgoing personality from the time she was very young. She was popular in high school and prom attendant as a junior. She and her boyfriend were “Mr. and Miss Donelson High School” when she was a senior.

Cindy met Richard in her early twenties. Richard was active in Campus Crusade for Christ and Cindy became active as well. Soon after, Cindy became a Christian by professing her faith in Christ. Cindy and Richard were smitten with each other from the day they met. They married on December 19th, 1975, and were blessed with a daughter Bailey on April 6, 1990. They lived in the Nashville area throughout their marriage.

She started her career as a respiratory therapist and later became an IV therapist. She went into nursing school with her younger sister Terri in 1980 and nursing became her true passion. Cindy’s last (and favorite) position was the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Vanderbilt. She was loving, kind & compassionate not just with the tiny babies she took care of, but also their parents. She was an advocate for the rights of babies and instrumental in changing the way babies were cared for.
Cindy was one of those people who you instantly felt comfortable around and was very easy to talk to. She would make you feel like the most important person in the room, because she really felt that way. She also had a great sense of humor and was always coming up with something to make us
laugh.

She accepted everyone and she would fiercely defend those she loved. Among the most apparent ways that Cindy lived her Christian life was by her generosity. While this was shown in many ways, none was more apparent than opening her home to friends and family that needed a place to stay. And if you needed someone to talk to, she would drop everything, listen and do anything she could to help. Cindy didn’t have a judgmental bone in her body.

She loved music and movies. Although a child of the 60s, she loved a lot of different genres of music and kept up with what was popular with Richard and Bailey. If you were down, she thought a good movie might be just what you needed to lift the mood.

Cindy remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She was a founding member of Faith Christian Reformed Church and attended Bible Study Fellowship for several years. A big influence in her early Christian life was the movie, “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Our family saw it together. The music was fabulous, so we had to have the soundtrack album. We played it over and over and memorized every song.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jim Baird and Emily Everett and her husband Richard Davis. She is survived by her daughter Bailey (Travis) Hembree, grandson Jamie, 3 sisters, 1 brother and countless friends.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I’m so sorry of your sisters passing ,Michael. Prayers for you and your family. She was a beautiful young lady.

  2. Dear Cindy’s Family:
I am a cousin of Cindy. I remember many good times early in my life between the Whitehead’s and the Swann’s. In particular, I remember inviting Cindy to accompany me to a major dance event at Castle Heights Military Academy during my Junior year there – that would be 1964. I remember her as a very beautiful girl with a happy personality. I received word of her passing on Sunday evening, 8/25 and it is not possible for my Sister and I to make it to Brentwood from Chattanooga in time for the service. Please forgive us. We wish the family the best and we will be including Cindy and family in our prayers.
    Jim Whitehead

    • I am the Grandmother of Cindy and Terrie, Connie & Mike- my prayers for the loss of your sister Cindy.
AND my prayers to Bailey-Cindy’s daughter.. If the miles were less from Florida (home) to Tennessee
I would be there to give all a hug & kiss (believe me). Blessings from Margaret (Baird) White in Florida.
