April 4, 1963 ~ March 8, 2024

Born in: Madison, Tennessee
Resided in: Nashville, Tennessee

Daphene Minchey Wachs (April 4, 1963 – March 8, 2024) peacefully departed this world among family in Nashville, Tennessee.

Daphene is preceded in death by her parents Layton T Minchey, Mary Alice (Sadler) Minchey and grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Randolph Wachs, son Christopher Smith, step-daughter, Mary Rachel Wachs, granddaughter, Aubree Smith, Robert (Joyce) Minchey, Marion Ann (Montez)Carter, Dianna (Jack) Key. She has many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and two adoring dogs, Addie and Mack.

Born in Madison, Tennessee, Daphene spent most of her childhood in the greater Nashville area. She attended Gateway Elementary and Madison High School (1981).

Daphene worked many years with the Anderson-Austin News Group before embarking on her second career at Music Mill Entertainment where she enjoyed being involved in helping bring music to the world.

In recent years she with her husband and four legged family spent much of their time in St Maarten; her “happy place” and second home. Daphene enjoyed travel, good food, time with close friends, family, music (especially country and classic rock and roll). Time on the open sea brought her happiness and peace.

One of Daphene’s passions in life was the love and caring of animals. Were I to have let her, we would have had a small zoo on the island. She loved baby goats, monkeys, whales, sea turtles, hummingbirds and most especially, dogs. When involved in any cause, Daphene left her distinctive mark. She was often quiet but when she spoke her words always had meaning. Some found her a bit blunt, others realized she commanded a level of street smarts of more value than most PHDs.

Passionate about life, she lived it on her terms. So quiet, but a force of nature….. Anyone who knew her enjoyed her quiet wit; extraordinary devotion to those she called family and friend; love of nature; good humor and unfailing attention to detail. Daphene seemed to have an encyclopedic knowledge of areas she found interesting.

Daphene was deeply spiritual. She didn’t attend a specific church regularly; the great outdoors was her place for reflection and worship.

She will be greatly missed by family and friends…..

In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in her name to the following:

Fighting the scourge of cancer is our goal. Fighting for children faced with this menace, is the front line. Daphene can fight on with your help. We invite you to participate in the cause:

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Before I got married, Daphne (and even Randy) changed my life path by becoming friends that truly cared about me and weren’t afraid to tell me like it is. We spent many years of our mutual birthday (April 4) together in SXM exploring and parasailing and eating and drinking , but mostly soaking in their beautiful view from their home. She will always remain in my heart and she better be waiting for me when it’s my turn so I have someone to laugh with. Love you Daph… you were the best, best friend a girl could ask for ❤️

  2. Daphene’s joy was contagious. The joy we had together in Sint Maarten and through “happy hour” virtual conversations will be sorely missed. There were too many times to list them all, but the Saba trip with the slide will stay in my memory forever.
I will continue to remember all these good times moving forward.

  3. The Island of SXM (or The Rock as fondly called by Daphene & Randy) will never be quite the same again sadly. Taken far too soon & our ‘Happy Hour’ in the Estate, will be missing one very special lady. A wonderful & compassionate person (Mac aka Bat Boy) is testament to this – a homeless little dog wandering in the estate, who found his home with her & Randy🐾
Daphene, you will be missed more than words can express!!!!!!

  4. We will miss our Google Daph. Daph & Randy were our mentors when buying our home on Sint Maarten. She was always ready to answer our hundreds of questions about the neighborhood and buying process. They became our very close and dear friends . We had so many questions for them, Daph actually created a spreadsheet for us with all of their vendors , workers and where to shop. We had so many wonderful adventures with them boating, beaches, meals and Happy Hours.
We will miss you, my friend, and will watch over Randy . Until we meet again.
With love, Rick & Brenda Fioretti

  5. I was honored to get to know Daphene for the past two years. It didn’t take long upon meeting her to learn how spunky and full of life she was. I loved how quick witted she was and found joy in the smallest things in life. Her energy was contagious. The love she had for her granddaughter Aubree and her son Chris was beyond anything measurable. She will forever hold a special place on my heart and truly and deeply missed.

  6. I went to school with Daphene and we had many good times back in the day. We saw each other here and there after high school. Maybe the last time was 10-15 years ago. I just learned 2 days ago she passed away. She was a beautiful girl with a quiet, free spirit and I will always remember the good times we had. I never met Randy, but saw him in Facebook pictures. They sure looked happy.
I pray God’s comfort for all of her family and friends. She will forever have a place in my heart.
