Douglas Brent Goddard passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him deeply and countless friends and colleagues whose lives he touched. Subsequent medical findings indicate an acute cardiac event.
Brent dedicated his career to serving others through public service. He spent many years with Metro Nashville Public Schools, where he was known for his hard work, dependability, and genuine care for those around him. He was currently employed with the Tennessee Department of Human Services, where he continued his commitment to serving his community with integrity and compassion.
Above all else, Brent loved his family. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend whose quiet strength, kind heart, and steady presence brought comfort to those who knew him. As a twin, he shared a lifelong bond with his brother, Blake, that was truly one of a kind—a connection marked by love, loyalty, and countless memories that will forever be treasured.
Brent will be remembered for his generous spirit, his willingness to help others, and the lasting impact he made through both his work and his relationships. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy of kindness, service, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

To all the Goddard family I send many prayers and for God to watch over everyone during a very sad time.
My heartfelt condolences go out to the Goddard family. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May the love and memories you shared with Brent bring you comfort and strength and may the lasting impact he made remain forever in your hearts.
Brent touched me in a way that left a lasting impression. It wasn’t just his quiet, charming nature, his nurturing voice, or the calmness of his presence. There was something about Brent that made you feel comfortable, welcomed, and at ease whenever you were around him.
Although Brent had only been with our team for a short time, it never felt that way to me. It felt as though I had known him for much longer. His presence was familiar, natural, and comforting—as though he had always been a part of our team.
One of the things I loved most about Brent was his voice. He had this unique ability to make even stressful moments feel lighter when he spoke. I remember telling him that the last time we saw each other in person. I complimented him on his voice and told him how much I enjoyed—and even looked forward to—hearing him speak when it was his turn to give his report or updates during our team meetings and calls, lol. To me, he just had this unique radio or news-reporter sound/tone to his voice that I genuinely loved listening to. After hearing this weird but truthful complement from me, lol, Brent just laughed and humbly attributed it to his many years as a teacher and to spending so many years around children.
But I believe there was something more to it than that. There was something about the way Brent spoke that was both supportive and reassuring. His calmness had a way of becoming my calmness. Somehow, after listening to him, my own stressful day didn’t seem quite so overwhelming anymore.
When Brent spoke, I often found myself simply wanting to listen without interrupting. He had a way of communicating that naturally drew you in. He could explain and expound on things with such clarity and brevity. He had a gift for saying so much without saying too much, and somehow, he could take even the most complicated things and make them feel simple and easy to understand.
I really hope Brent really realized the effect he had on people. Sometimes, it isn’t anything profound that you say. It the way you speak, the way you listen, or the calmness you carry into a stressful moment. That was Brent. He had a way of making you feel seen, heard, and understood. And before you knew it, you found yourself thinking, “You know what? Everything is going to be okay.”
And I am so very grateful that I had the opportunity to meet Brent and to have known him, even if our time together was much shorter than I would have liked. What amazes me is that the length of time we knew him does not seem to measure the depth of the impression he left.
Brent. You may have only been with our team for a short time, but you left a lasting impression on my heart. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Rest well.
We’re truly sorry to hear about Brents passing. Like his father and entire family, we are Blessed to have known him in our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with all his family .
