Florence Paula “Polly” Maxwell Lankford Florence Paula “Polly” Maxwell Lankford was born in Nashville, Tennessee on November 25, 1943, in St. Thomas Hospital to Mary Frances Hughes Maxwell and Paul Maxwell. She passed away on June 28, 2023, in St. Thomas Hospital West in Nashville where she had lived most of her life. She grew up in the Richland-Central historic area and graduated from West End High School in 1961. Polly began her working life at the Baptist Sunday School Board and after several other employers, she began her career of thirty years with Bank of America from which she retired in 2011 as Vice-President, Trust Department. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James Alfred Lankford Jr.; two sons, James Alfred Lankford III of Nashville and Paul Maxwell Lankford (Dianne) of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Matthew Lankford of Nashville, Mason Lankford of Bell Buckle, Sarah Lankford Toler (Jonathan) of Franklin, Taylor Lankford Thurmon (Josiah) of Austin and David Lankford of Austin; and two sisters, Sara Maxwell Durrett of Smyrna and Kathy Maxwell Russell (Tim) of Houston; plus nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Frances Hughes Maxwell, and her sister, Jane Maxwell Ross. Polly became a Christian at an early age and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. Her high intelligence, strong moral character, personal integrity, and compassion made her an admired and respected member of the community throughout her life. Her passing and the loss of her companionship, counsel and influence is felt deeply by many. The family will receive visitors Monday, July 3, 2023, from 9:00 to 10:30 am at West Meade Fellowship Church, 277 Old Hickory Blvd., Nashville, Tennessee 37221. The funeral is scheduled for 10:30 am in the sanctuary with Brother Mike Shelton officiating. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery immediately following.   1. There is no way to capture in words how much my Grandma means to me. If I am half the woman that she was, I will consider myself blessed. I will miss her every single day until I see her again.

  5. Polly several years in the Trust Department was a very smart Trust officer and well loved and respected by everyone. I was very lucky to work for her. I am sorry she was very sick for such a long time. She is with the Lord and no longer in pain.
