Resided in: Nashville, Tennessee

George Guy Keith, III, 77, left this world unexpectedly on December 11th, to join the angels in heaven. He was born on February 21, 1947, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Mary and George Keith.

George is survived by his wife of 47 years, Polly, his two daughters Courtney Bristow and Catherine Arrowood and their families including 6 grandchildren, his siblings Buzzy Keith, Susie Keith, and Lelia Bruun, and countless friends, colleagues, and extended family members whom he treasured as part of what made his life so full.

George grew up in Nashville, graduating from Overton High School. He then went on to attend and graduate from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Statistics. George and Polly raised their children in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and happily moved back to Nashville in 2003. George embodied hard work and professionalism. He had a very successful career as a sales, marketing, and finance executive at a few different banks and companies, most notably at GE Capital. He ended his corporate career running a small business as a restaurant franchise owner. For the last five years he has enjoyed giving special tours at the Ryman Auditorium. The Ryman gave him a wonderful opportunity to share his love of Nashville and live music with so many people and it brought him joy daily.

George lived life to its fullest in many ways. He was an amazing father and grandfather, taking an active role in his kids and grandkids lives every chance he could. George’s weekends when his kids were growing up were filled with watching their many sports and passionately beautifying the yard with his green thumb. Once he moved back to Nashville, he dove headfirst into the music and food scene. He enjoyed all that Nashville has to offer, sharing it with family and friends through concerts and wonderful meals. After retiring from their successful careers, George and Polly finally began travelling the world as George had hoped to for many years, taking amazing trips with family and friends to Italy and just recently to the UK and Scotland. George was a faithful member of Woodmont Christian Church. Here he found lifelong friends and was able to serve in ways true to his spirit through supporting various garden and improvement projects and Room at the Inn.

Those who know George will remember his warm smile, his unwavering desire to experience life to its fullest, how thoughtfully and unassumingly he completed anything he was asked to help with or lead, and his ever-present love of his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, December 16th, at Woodmont Christian Church. A visitation will precede the service from 1:00PM – 3:00PM, also at Woodmont. A private family burial will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Contributions in his memory may be made specifically to support the Walk Thru Bethlehem event at Woodmont Christian Church. This Christmas event is so special to the Keith’s, whose current version was started by George’s mom Mary Keith, in memory of his deceased sister Anne Keith. Donations may be sent to Woodmont Christian Church, 3601 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN 37215.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Kindness and patience were the two qualities that I always saw in George. His wry smile and permanent twinkle in his eye always shined when he was with Polly, Courtney and Catherine.

We have lost a very fine man and a lovely soul. I am so sorry for your loss and grateful to have known George.

    xo, erik

  2. I remember George always in the stands at Ridgefield High girls basketball games supporting not only his daughters but the entire program. A true gentleman who will be missed by his family and friends. Coach Jim Muraski

  3. I remember when George gave me a private VIP tour of the Ryman. He showed me special places I wasn’t really supposed to go because he wanted to give me the full tour and the history of music at the Ryman. He knew every detail and he knew every story. He was proud to share his love of music with other music lovers like me. I’ll miss George’s kindness passion for serving and love of music. Miss you already, buddy.

  4. George’s smile and kindness- I am glad to have met and worked with him when he helped out the usher/house staff for shows. I wish it had been for a longer but am grateful for the time spent working together. I will miss him.
