With hearts both heavy and grateful, we celebrate the life of George Ralph Parten, 78, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, who went home to be with the Lord on May 8, 2026. Surrounded by the unwavering love of his wife and daughters, Ralph passed peacefully at home, just as he lived—with grace, dignity, and family close by.
Born December 1, 1947, Ralph’s life was a testament to faith, family, and steadfast service. He carried a rare blend of boardroom wisdom and open-road grit, all anchored by a deep love for his Savior, his people, and Alabama football!
For 34 years, Ralph helped shape the Bank of York, retiring as Executive Vice President, board member, and stockholder. His leadership didn’t stop there. A proud veteran, he served 6 years in the National Guard with honor. In 1988, he took the wheel of Parten Truck Lines INC, building it into a company defined by integrity and hard work.
Since 2016, he lent his vision as a board member and owner of ICMA and The Sound of Small Town America, leaving each organization stronger for his presence.
Yet Ralph’s proudest titles were found at home; where he was known as “Chief” and at church as a man of strong and abiding faith. He served his home church joyfully as deacon, choir member, and on countless committees. His bass voice in the choir was matched only by the strength of his convictions. He believed in showing up, pitching in, and lifting others—whether it was a hymn, a prayer, or a helping hand.
Ralph’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of many cherished years, Diane; daughters Rhonda Hatcher (Bobby) of Cuba, AL, Carrie Moore of Sevierville TN, Mandy Hall (Joey) of Goodlettsville TN, and Monica Walker (Scott) of Kodak TN, who were the light of his life; brothers Joe Parten (Pat) of Cuba AL and Jim Parten (Kay) of Tuscaloosa AL; and a legacy that lives on in “Chief’s” grandchildren: Dylan Walker, Hunter Walker and granddaughter-in-love Kylah Walker, Robby Hatcher, Rileigh Hatcher, GeorgeColby Moore, and Ryan Hatcher. He also leaves his nephews BJ Parten (Cindy), Michael Parten, and John Nicholson (Vanessa); his niece Ramona Parten; and a wide, beloved extended family of cousins and friends who knew him as loyal, generous, and quick with a story and a smile.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elsie Parten; his in-laws, Billy and Rebecca Hastings; his precious daughter Jina Moore and granddaughter Reagan Hatcher; and his dear sister-in-love Pat Parten. We take comfort knowing they welcomed him home.
Ralph never met a stranger and never forgot a friend. He loved his family fiercely, led with quiet strength, and lived his faith out loud. Whether in the boardroom, behind the wheel, or in a church pew, he made every place better. His handshake was firm; his word was gold, and his love was unconditional.
A celebration of Ralph Parten’s life will be held at York Baptist Church at 301 N Broad Street, York AL. on Saturday May 30th. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with the Service to follow at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Ralph’s memory through acts of faith and kindness, or donations to IC Cares through the Inspirational Country Music Association, continuing the generosity that defined his life.
He was a man who loved his family and friends deeply, and he will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. Well done, good and faithful servant.
