James Albert Singleton, Sr.

James Albert Singleton Sr. passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the age of 102. He is preceded in death by his father, James Allen Singleton and mother, Mattie Mae Spicer Singleton, and brother, John "Billy" Singleton, sister, Katherine O’Kain and sister, Margaret "Margie" Louise Hembree. He is also preceded by a son, John Allen Singleton and a son, Randall Lynn Singleton. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Louise Singleton, and two sons, Gary Wayne (Cathy) Singleton and James "Jim" Albert (Carolyn) Singleton Jr., and daughter-in-law, Marcia Singleton; and by grandchildren: John (Traci) Singleton, Kathy Lund, Jeff (Mary) Singleton, Greg (Tamie) Singleton, Jamie Singleton, Emily (Robert) Gray, Randall (Emily) Singleton, Curtis Singleton; and by many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. James was born in West Nashville with strong family ties to the Vanleer area of Dickson county Tennessee. He attended Cohn high school in Nashville. He served in the Navy during World War II in a cavalry regiment. After returning to civilian life, he became an electrician for the railroad, then joined the Nashville police department, where he served more than 30 years and retired as a detective in the criminal investigation department of metropolitan government. He was proud to be a Member of the Masonic Order. He loved his family, his friends and neighbors, his country and his Lord, Jesus Christ. Prior to his passing, he and his wife, Dorothy, enjoyed the honor of being the longest living married couple in the USA, 81 years of marriage. He will be missed by us all, but we’re excited about his short trip to heaven. A Funeral Service will be held 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Charlotte Road Baptist Church, 7511 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN 37209 with Jack Stone officiating. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park with Military Honors. Visitation with the family will be held on Monday at Charlotte Road Baptist Church from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at Charlotte Road Baptist Church.
