James "Jim" William Garrett

James “Jim” W. Garrett, 75, of Hermitage Tennessee passed away on November 19, 2022, peacefully in his home. Jim was born on June 7, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri to Geraldine and Bill Garrett. He graduated in 1965 from Washingtonville High School in Washingtonville NY and proceeded to further his education at Cameron University in Lawton, Ok and McMurray University in Abilene, Tx. In 1965, Jim met Pamela Bates, his wife of 53 years, in Lawton. They were married on June 28th, 1969. From this union they went on to have 3 children, Patrick Garrett (Bridgette) of Lawton, Michelle Sampson (Herman Bell) of Hermitage, and Keri Bates (John) of Hermitage. Eight grandchildren, James Garrett, Anna Bates, Dalton Sampson, Kylie Garrett, Chloe Sampson, Wade Bates, Emma Sampson, Caden Sampson, and three great-grandchildren Ayden Chavis, Aliyah Chavis, and Kendall Hudson. Jim retired from The Lawton Constitution after 40 years of service in Lawton, Oklahoma. In his retirement Jim enjoyed fishing, painting and spending time with his family. He was an avid bass fisherman, and he was a charter member for the Southwest Sooner's Bass Club in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Ann McCaig. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Brush Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3705 Brush Hill Road, Nashville, TN 37216.
