James Micheal Morrow, a loving husband, doting father and grandfather, and a friend to those lucky enough to know him, died on April 24, 2024, in Nashville, TN.

Affectionately known as Mike; he was born in Columbia, Tennessee to the late William (Bill) and Marcia Morrow in March of 1952. He remained a proud Tennessee resident for his entire life. Ask anyone who knew Mike and they would tell you his blood ran orange. He was a Volunteer through and through. He
graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1974 and immediately went to work for the State of Tennessee in 1975.

Mike served the state of Tennessee under seven governors and worked directly with most of them. In 1975 he began his illustrious 41-year career as an internal auditor in the Urban and Federal Affairs office under Governor Winfield Dunn. He served in administrative accounting positions and then as fiscal director in the Dept. of Employment Security during the administration of Gov. Lamar Alexander. He later moved to the Dept. of Finance and Administration, where he was a fiscal director, assistant commissioner, and deputy commissioner. During the last months of Gov. Phil Bredesen’s administration he served as the Commissioner of Finance and Administration. Mike continued to serve as deputy commissioner during Gov. Bill Haslam’s administration until his retirement in 2015.

Mike was also a man of deep faith. He served his church, Belle Meade United Methodist, loyally. He attended mission trips locally and internationally, served as a mentor to the youth group, and led the church’s Room in the Inn’ program for many years. A novel could be written to detail his servant heart.

Mike will be remembered for many things including his sense of humor, his kindness towards everyone around him, his love for his family, and his gentle spirit.

Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lou; their two children, Ben and Katie Morrow; a grandson, Austin Morrow; and a future son-in-law, Jordan Hodge.

The family wishes to thank all the staff of Abe’s Garden and Alive Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 11th at 1:00pm with visitation from 11am-1pm at Belle Meade United Methodist Church located at 121 Davidson Road, Nashville TN 37205. In lieu of flowers, the Morrow family respectfully requests contributions in Mike’s memory be made to either the church, Abe’s Garden Community or Alive Hospice.
