James Phillip “Tony” Frisina, 82, of Nashville, Tennessee, died unexpectedly from heart disease on September 16, 2026, at Vanderbilt Hospital. He was born November 16, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Antoinette Cupo Phillips and James Frisina Phillips.

Tony served in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After his military service, he studied marketing and art at Austin Peay State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.

An artist at heart and a master woodworker, Tony brought care and imagination to everything he made. He designed and built custom cabinets and furniture, and through his company, StructureCraft LLC, he renovated historic homes and built new ones in the Nashville area. His work reflected his eye for design and his love of craftmanship.

Tony enjoyed playing chess, reading, listening to jazz, and spending time with his beloved wife, Suzanne, and his pets. He loved the ocean and fondly remembered fishing with his father at the Jersey Shore. He also took pleasure in country drives and adventurous rides on his motorcycle.

At the heart of Tony’s life was his loving wife, Suzanne Pitt Frisina. Their 53 years of marriage were a testament to their enduring love and devotion to one another. Suzanne was his cherished companion, sharing a lifetime with him and holding a special place in the family he leaves behind.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne; his sisters-in-law, Sally Pitt Daniel (Bob Daniel) and Karen Sellers Pitt; nieces Jennifer Pitt (Andy Mueller) and Becky Miller (Patrick Miller); nephews Jonathan McGraw and Joe Pitt (Clio Chiang); grandnieces and grandnephews Lily Miller Fussell (Jason Fussell), Julian Miller, Sophie Miller, Owen Mueller, Cole Mueller, and Olive Chiang Pitt; cousins Ray Lewis (Linda), Marilynn Grossman (Ray), Carole Ford, and Jane Palo; and extended family and dear friends.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Bob Pitt; and his niece, Jillian McGraw.

A celebration of Tony’s life may be held at a later date.

  1. I’ll always remember Uncle Tony as a friendly, warm fella who’d greet me like no time had passed since we last saw each other. He was a great person to spend time and chat with and a wonderful man to have known. We love him and Suzie and we’ll miss him dearly.
