John David Hopper

John David Hopper, 85, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on October 18, 2023, related to complications after suffering from a heart attack.
John was born on July 9, 1938 to John S. Hopper and Janelle (Thomason) Hopper in Nashville. After John graduated from Dickson High School in 1956, he went on to join the United States Army where he served his country from 1961 to 1964. John worked in the banking industry for many years as bank manager at Commerce Union Bank.
In 1957, John met Shirley at Commerce Union Bank. John and Shirley married on August 30, 1957, and went on to have two sons, David and Jason. John was a lifelong member of the church and spent several years serving others as an elder at the River Road Church of Christ. He was also an avid sports fan, particularly enjoying Kentucky Wildcat basketball and New York Yankees baseball. He also enjoyed coaching his sons in both basketball and baseball for many years. John’s focus in his later years was his family. He took great joy and pride in spending time with his grandchildren and family.
John is survived by wife Shirley and sons David (Lori) Hopper of Castle Rock, Colorado, Jason (Amber) Hopper of Fairview, Tennessee, and grandchildren, Hayden (18), Jacob (7), Eden (6) and Caleb (4). He also has two grand pups, Zeus and Buckley, and one adorable cat, Kitty Kitty. He was the eldest of four children, and is predeceased by brothers Jimmy and Billy and parents, survived by sister Pat and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held at Western Hills Church, 7565 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN on Sunday, October 22 – visitation at noon, followed by a celebration of life at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to River Road or Bellevue Church of Christ or Church of Christ Disaster Relief, organizations John felt strongly about.
