John W Barrett was born October 20, 1935, in Portsmouth Ohio to the union of James and Hattie Barrett was the youngest born to this union.
John was educated in the Portsmouth School District; John was a graduate of Portsmouth High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1962. After the Air Force, he worked for the United States Postal Service for several years and went on to join the ranks at Lohr Distributing where he worked until retirement. John decided retirement was not for him and went back to Lohr part-time. He went back into retirement once the world was forced to close and or reduce business due to COVID-19. John moved to Clarksville TN in April 2022 to be closer to family.
John lived a full and lively life; he enjoyed playing baseball when he was younger. He loved his Opera and his family. John could be seen with a car full of children going to some school event. He provided tickets to the St. Louis Jazz Festival every summer. When the grandkids arrived, he was that chauffeur and ATM. John will be missed. He made an impression on all those he touched.
The Sun set for John on April 25 th and 4:55 pm. At Vanderbilt Hospital. He was surrounded by his loved ones.
John was preceded in death by His parents, siblings, and son John E Glaze Jr.
John leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Sadie Louise Barrett, Daughter, Pamela Blanchard, Grandson’s, Charles Blanchard, Byron Blanchard (Krista) Malik Glaze, Great Grands, Byron Blanchard III, Kimori Mansel, Jorden Blanchard, Tyler Blanchard, Austin Blanchard, Autumn Blanchard and Londen Blanchard, Nephew, Todd Barrett (Cheryl) Godson, Allen Johnson.
A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, MO 63125 with Military Honors.
