Kenneth David Laster, age 75, passed away June 22, 2023 in Murfreesboro, TN. Mr. Laster is preceded in death by his parents, Ray Laster and Lula Belle Midgett Laster; siblings, Mary Ann Jones, Jannie Reeves, James Ray Laster, Robert Laster, Jerry Dean “Red” Laster. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Debbie Laster; daughter, Tonya Overstreet (David); son, Matthew David Laster; sister, Linda Konkol (Frank) and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Ken had an extensive military career spanning 40 years. He joined the Army in 1966 and served in Long Binh Vietnam as a communications specialist. After his service with the Army, he joined the Army National Guard where he spent 37 years and retired as the Command Sergeant Major for the 194th Engineer Brigade. Ken also retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers after 23 years. Ken enjoyed spending time with his family, drinking coffee, watching Westerns, and keeping an eye on the weather. He traveled to most of the states and several countries, including England, Germany, Honduras, and Bulgaria. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dementia Society of America. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023, at Western Hills Church 7565 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN 37209 with Dr. Trevie Dean officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors to follow at Middle TN Veteran’s Cemetery on McCrory Lane. Honorary Pallbearers include: Elmer Brandhorst, Mike Hartsook, Bob Barker, Bill Oltmer, Glen Deaton, Gary Degood, John Silvia, John Rowan, Skip Hiett, Glen Payton, VC Wilder, Bradley Bendara, Cliff August, Lee Johnston, Charlie Jeffries, Michael Joy, Andy Stanfield, Brayden Reynolds, Tom Lombardi,194th Engineer Brigade, Jimmy Campbell, Clint Smith, Jerry Griffin, Jimmy Laster, Jacob Laster, Bob Thompson, Randy Hood, Bill Drake, James White, and David Overstreet. A special thank you to Janet Osborne for her special care she gave to Kenny in his final days here on earth. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Western Hills Church.
