Laura Parsons Walker, aged 69, passed away on July 2, 2024, in her home in Nashville, TN.

Born on December 11, 1954, in Water Valley, MS, Laura dedicated nearly three decades of her life as an educator, most recently serving at The Academy of McKay’s Mill in Franklin, TN until she retired in 2022.

A kind-hearted and loving mother, sister, and daughter, Laura’s warmth touched the lives of all who knew her. Her greatest joy was found in shaping the lives of countless students who came through her classroom over the years. She was a proud alumna of Water Valley High School and later graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1976.

Laura is survived by her sons, Will and Corbin Walker; her two brothers, John Randal Parsons, married to Jennifer, and Robby Parsons, married to Bonnie; and her sister-in-law Carlisle Parsons Wood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Kathryn “Kaki” Parsons, and her brother Richard Parsons.

A memorial and remembrance for Laura will be held privately with close family on July 14. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will forever be cherished by those who knew her.

  2. I’m deeply saddened by this news. Ms. Laura taught both of my daughters in pre-K at AoMM. She was truly exceptional. I feel privileged to have known her and to have had her educate my girls. Her presence will be greatly missed by many.

  3. Please accept our deepest condolences. Laura taught my oldest at the Academy, and we are grateful for her influence. She was always so kind to our family including our youngest who she never taught and made time for our old oldest when she returned to school to say hi at pick up and drop off. Praying for all who loved and knew her.

  4. Ms. Laura was a wonderful educator, teaching both of my boys. They loved her so much, and she still always had a sweet hug for them when we would see her, even after they went to kindergarten. I’m so sorry to hear, and I wish your family peace and comfort in memories of her.

  5. Miss Laura was all three of our children’s FAVORITE teacher at the Academy. She was incredible and had a passion for child care. She saw the spark in all of her students. She was an absolutely brilliant teacher and she will be missed.

  13. Ms. Laura taught my daughter at AoMM and was amazing. My daughter stills talks about her today (19 yrs old) and remembers her so fondly. She will be missed. ❤️❤️

  15. I am so sorry to hear about Ms. Laura’s passing. She was a wonderful Pre-K teacher for our oldest son, and taught him skills he still uses many years later. I remember her compassion and warmth toward our whole family, her special programs at Academy, and her love of The Magic Treehouse book series. She taught our kids how to place a hand on our arm when they want to say something instead of interrupting, and would place her hand over theirs to acknowledge their presence. She touched our lives. Sending love to her friends and family.
