A Memorial Tree was planted in memory of Michael Lee LampkinThose that knew Michael would already know this, but I want to say that he was the definition of kind, caring, loving, loyal, positive, and uplifting to those around him (even if he was having his own challenges or frustrations). He also LOVED music and dancing (a mutual love that we shared). We have been very close friends for ~23 years or so, and many of my fond memories together revolve around music. On the weekends, you would find us dancing in clubs together, and our song there was “Don’t Call Me Baby”, we both loved it and sang it to each other. Just a few weeks ago I messaged him that they were playing it in the grocery store at 9:20 AM, and he replied saying “all that great music we had!!!” And, in the car and at home it was much the same…always playing music and dancing or singing together. In the car we were usually playing and singing to Destiny’s Child CD. One of my most treasured memories with Michael is us singing the Mariah Carey & Brian McKnight duet “Whenever You Call” over and over and over again. I think Allen got sick of it after a while. If you didn’t know, Michael had a buttery signing voice similar to Brian McKnight. I am devastated by the news of his accident and passing, and after hearing of it, I honestly didn’t think I could get through playing that song, but finding when I play it I can close my eyes and imagine him next to me singing it again, and it is actually uplifting for me, just like he was uplifting to those around him. The lyrics to the song have taken on a whole new meaning for me, especially “I will never be too far away to feel you.” Words cannot describe how much I will miss him in my life. A hole is left, and a piece of my heart has gone with him. I love you my dear friend, from the time we met until the time we meet again.
I found these original prints from our road trip from Portland to Atlanta, St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah and Billy and I hanging out with Allen and Michael. 😄
I love you Michael
A Memorial Tree was planted in memory of Michael Lee LampkinI will never forget our trip to Savannah. We all dressed up in green and beads and had the time of our lives drinking, eating and just having fun! Our big move from Portland to Atlanta in 2000 took a week but it was the best road trip I’ve ever taken. We took our time staying in dive motels, stopped at numerous attractions and rolled into Atlanta with only $6 bucks left from our budget but it was so worth it. I regret not taking more pics along the way but when I came across this original selfie I was so happy we took that picture together. I would do it all over again if I could 😀
Beautiful memory and story of your road trip together Josh. And I am so glad you guys made that move to Atlanta or I never would have met you and Michael.
Pictures from an amazing day on the boat and with Tillie. They were full of sunshine, love and laughter. Times that will never be forgotten.
The life of the party, the laugh I’ll never forget, the smile that could brighten the darkest room. I’ll never forget how much fun working with and knowing you was. ❤️
I always enjoyed giving Michael funny looks from across the office to make him laugh. He was the perfect person to take to on the rare occasion when I had some time to kill at work. One event I’ll specifically remember is the Spartan race we did with our coworkers. At the end of the course there are a couple of mud baths with muddy mounds on either side you have to climb up. After I struggled up, I turned around to help the others. Michael grabbed my hand and nearly pulled me back into the mud! Lol But he was really grateful for the help. I’m glad we got to participate in this fun activity outside of work. I regret that we won’t have a chance to do so again.
