(MSG)Richard Leroy Whipple, United States Army Retired, age 88, passed away peacefully, July 6, 2023, after decades of suffering from the effects of Agent Orange, although, he never complained and was always grateful to see another day. Mr. Whipple was also a member of the 5th Special Forces group. He was a very devoted and decorated veteran, who served tours in Vietnam and tours for the “Secret Army” in Laos. Eventually retiring after 24 years of service. After his military retirement he went on to be his own boss in the trucking industry and eventually retired from JB Hunt after 22 years. Some of his hobbies included spending time with all of his family, vacationing, bowling, snow skiing and fishing. He also loved jumping out of airplanes and he was 76 his final jump. He really enjoyed going to the Special Forces and Army Tank reunions. Richard was a very spiritual and Christian man who believed in God and was a perfect example of how a Christian husband should be. Although not everyone knew that because his wife forbade him speaking about politics or religion at any functions or get togethers. He will be remembered as one of the most loving and positive men you would ever meet. He was so much fun to be around, and everyone loved him. His fun-loving spirit and wisdom were always appreciated, and his strength was beyond any other. He was a tremendously loyal and dedicated husband to his surviving wife of 38 years, Janet Whipple; He was always proud of all of his kids. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lea Whipple Fairbanks. Survived by children, Kathy Whipple, of Los Angeles; Robert Whipple, of Clarksville, TN; LeRae (Dave) DeRasmo, of Las Vegas, NV; bonus children, Horace (Amber) Heggie, Clarksville, TN and Heather Lynn, Nashville, TN. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Christopher James Holliday, Crystal Moronez (David Jr.), Gregory Argo Jr., Amber Whipple, Gregory Papalcure (Beth), Cheryl Whipple (Michael), Richard Keul, David DeRasmo (Ashley), Steven Whipple (Amber), Kaitlyn Berrios (Zurai), Garrett Whipple, Sara Whipple, Kate Heggie, Izzy Heggie; and great grandchildren, Hailey Argo, David Moronez III., Ethan Moronez, Brooke Wright, Julie Ann Wright, Thomas Richardson and Paisley Rau. Also surviving are his beloved pup, Lola and his grand pup Chloe Belle. There will be a private service for family and friends at the Middle TN Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
