Born in: Manchester, Tennessee
Resided in: Nashville/West Meade, Tennessee

The family of Nancy Smith Maroney is deeply saddened to announce that she has passed from this world to the next on June 2nd, 2026. Nancy was born April 15th, 1961, to Robert Pierson and Martha Parsons Smith, in Manchester, TN. She was raised on E. Blackwell St. in Tullahoma, TN, with her four sisters – Cindy, Leanne, Melanie, and Amy, and her brother Bobby. She attended Saint Paul’s Catholic School in Tullahoma, as well as Tullahoma City High School.

Growing up, Nancy focused on her studies, spent much time with family and friends, and appreciated the small things in life. She went on to attend Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), where she studied Economics. There, she met her husband, George Timothy Maroney, and many lifelong friends. During college, Nancy spent a semester abroad studying in Paris, France, specializing in the study of the French language. She carried many fond memories of her time in France, and her subsequent summer traveling in Europe, with her throughout her life. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1984. With her degree, Nancy found her first job out of college in foreign exchange at Commerce Union Bank in Nashville. On October 28th, 1989, Nancy and Tim got married in the Catholic Church at the Church of the Assumption in Nashville. Shortly thereafter, the newlyweds moved to Boynton Beach, FL, where Nancy continued to work in foreign exchange. Their time in the Sunshine State was short lived, however, and the couple moved back to Middle Tennessee in the early nineties. In June 1993, the couple purchased a cherished home in Nashville’s West Meade neighborhood, where lived for the rest of her life.

Nancy continued her professional and personal pursuits with the couple’s return to Middle Tennessee, working both in banking and later in operations at St. Thomas West Hospital. The couple always wanted children, and that journey came to fruition with the birth of their son, George Matthew Maroney, in September 2003. Nancy became a full-time mother with the birth of her son. She worked to instill in him many of the virtues she exhibited, such as honesty, dependability, and tenacity. A lifelong devout and practicing Catholic, Nancy began working as Parish Coordinator at St. Ann Church and School in 2016, a role she held until her passing. She became intimately embedded in the community of St. Ann, caring deeply for the community and its parishioners.Throughout her life, Nancy held a deep love of art – from music to the visual, literary, and more. She was an avid art collector, especially pieces featuring water scenes and nature. Nancy fought hard for the causes and people she cared about and loved her family and friends even more profoundly.

She is preceded by her parents, Robert Pierson and Martha Parsons Smith, her mother and father-in-law, George and Marie Maroney, and her brother Bobby. She is succeeded by her husband, George Timothy, her sisters, Cindy, Leanne, Melanie, and Amy, and her son Matthew. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

Visitation with the Maroney family will be held on Thursday evening, June 11, 2026, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, in Breen Hall of St. Ann Catholic Church. A memorial mass will be held on Friday morning, June 12, 2026, at 8:00am, at St. Ann Catholic Church. The committal service will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I met Nancy after my wife started working for St Ann. My first impression was that of a fun, loving, caring human being that was all-in and passionate about so many things. As I got to know her more, my impressions of her only magnified. She was all I originally thought and more. She went out of her way to be a friend to our autistic daughter and she was a dearest friend to my wife. She is going to be dearly missed. I can’t wait to reunite with her in heaven. Love, Dean Fain

  2. Cindy, Leanne, Melanie and Amy. I was saddened to learn of Nancy’s passing. My mom and your mom were great friends and would occasionally see your mom a few times over the years when she and mom would get together. I have many fond memories of being at your home on E. Blackwell when we were young and you all visiting our farm. I love it that those memories are so clear and bring a smile to my face after all of these years. Please accept my deepest sympathy on Nancy’s passing. My prayer for you is that the pain and tears of loss will eventually pass and the memories of Nancy and your life together will bring a smile to your face and warmth to your heart. May her memory be a blessing always.
