Robert Allen Smith, age 78, passed away on October 24, 2026. He was born on September 5, 1948. He brought joy and warmth to everyone blessed to know him.

Robert was preceded in death by parents Ridley and Mary Edith Smith, two brothers, granddaughter Abby Curtain, and daughter Kelly Burnett.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sandy Smith, grandson Colt, sister-in-laws Marietta Litton (Charlie) and Frances Laux (Scott). Robert leaves behind extended family and friends.

Robert served in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS Lexington. After his Naval service, the U.S. Postal Service employed him for 42 years.

Robert is remembered for his kind spirit, generous heart, sense of humor, love of gardening, and his unwavering support of Vanderbilt athletics.

Though his passing leaves a deep ache in the hearts of those who love him, we find comfort in knowing he is united with those he missed so dearly. He is at peace now, resting with the angels in heaven.

A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Middle Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery.
