Rodney “Rod” Joseph Pettinato, age 78, passed away peacefully at home and in the presence of family on July 14, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee. Rod was born in Kalispell, MT to Romolo and Esther Pettinato.
Rod is predeceased by his parents and survived by his wife, Kelly Monohan-Pettinato, sons Chris Pettinato, Brady Mixon (Step) and daughter Autum Malcolm; granddaughters, Sarah Potchinksy (Nathan), Samantha Pettinato, Madison Malcolm, Mazzie Malcolm; grandsons Aiden Whetsel, Mateo Mixon; great grandchildren Riley and Wyatt.
Also surviving are brother Russ (Judy) Pettinato of Whitefish, MT; sisters, Rhonda (John) Dudis of Kalispell, MT and Renee (Charlie) Mosley of Denver, CO; nephews Justin (Mic Alagcan) Pettinato of Denver, CO, Jared (Peri Bolton) Pettinato of Columbus, OH, Stephen (Lily) Pettinato of Santa Monica, CA; nieces Amanda (Michael Horelick) Pettinato-Dudis of Kila, MT and Allison Dudis of Kalispell, MT; grandnieces Loretta, Sophia, Ally and Rafaella; grandnephews Nico, Carter and Oliver.
Rod spent his early childhood in Essex, MT attending a one-room schoolhouse, exploring the woods, loving to fish and learning how to avoid bears. He attended Columbia Falls High School for one year and his last three at Whitefish High School graduating in 1963. After graduation, he entered into the Air Force and served for 4 years as a medic in Weisbaden, Germany. Honorably discharged in October 1967, he came to visit Nashville and ended up staying. He always said Nashville was warm in October but not so much in Whitefish, MT. Leveraging his medic training, he worked in the Nashville hospitals while attending a computer technical school. Upon completion, Rod spent the next almost 40 years in Information Technology.
Rod was an avid tennis player, a fanatic sports fan and spectator, especially for his Tennessee Titans, Braves, UT Vols and Montana Grizzlies. Rod also had passion for rock-n-roll with the Rolling Stones topping as his all-time favorite. Rod always brought joy and zest to gatherings, leaving lasting memories and stories for everyone present. He will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate to know him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Pettinato residence located at 8060 Settlers Way, Nashville, TN, 37221. In honor and spirit of Rod and this celebration, please feel free to attend this very casual event in your best tie dye and yes, sleeveless is more than welcome. Please come prepared to share your memories of Rod along with fellowship, music, food, beverages and football!
