Selena Renee Potts August 12, 1996 - February 5, 2023 A Memorial Tribute Celebration will be held on February 18, 2023, at Cedar Ridge Community of Christ (3220 Bell Road Nashville, TN 37214) from 2PM until 4PM. The service will be officiated by High Priest Heather Dawbarn with a potluck dinner to follow for all the people who loved Selena to get to know and visit with one another. Selena Renee Potts was the oldest sister to 3 baby sisters and one BIG baby brother. She was born on a beautiful 80° August day in 1996. Both of her parents were overjoyed. She was such a precious baby with large dark brown eyes and a wonderful personality. When she was just 16 months old, mom and stepdad Ray had an instant little best friend, her first baby sister. They were inseparable. Just a couple months after turning two, her dad and bonus mom brought her baby brother on the scene. They would fight but very good playmates. It would only be a couple more years to go by, and it was time for kindergarten. She was so smart and eager to learn. She really liked making things in art class and giving them as gifts. Very quickly, there was another sister. Selena loved to sit and feed her and watch her sleep when they were together. A few more years passed, and she was doing awesome in school, and she loved spending time with her many cousins. At the beginning of her 4th grade year, she had just turned 9 years old. A little over a month later, her youngest sister was born. She watched over her like a hawk. Selena was the best at being kind from a really young age. Always forgave everyone! She was shy, somewhat quiet, but not always. She really enjoyed playing guitar and listening to music. If Selena loved you, you knew! She was the friend of all friends. She was the best big sister, aunt, friend, and daughter that any of us could ask for. We should all be as loving and forgiving as our precious Selena. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Charles Ray Potts; maternal grandfather, Charles Wayne Thompson; maternal grandmother, Judy Darlene Thompson. Selena is survived by paternal grandmother, Mary Helen Youngblood Potts; father, Timothy Wayne (Nicole) Potts; mother, Jamie Lynn Thompson Turner (Chad Bush); sisters, Rachel (Rece) Collins, Heather Wentzel-Potts, Cassandra Wentzel-Potts; brother, Ethan Potts; nieces Willow, Hazel, Summer Collins, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 1. I followed your journey through the years, and the one thing that always stood out to me was how much of yourself you gave to the world through your own words. I thought you were an amazing writer, and I know you inspired so many people by documenting your amazing journey in recovery – the good and the bad. While this is difficult news to process, I’ve been reading your words again, and the spiritual path you revealed leads me back to the greatest author of them all – The Author Himself. I hope all who are hurt by this tragic loss can find peace in your words and His: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26) I do. Thank you for reminding us again today, Selena, where to find relief from our pain. You fought the good fight, and now you can rest in peace and claim your reward with your Father in Heaven. I’m so proud of all you did for others!
