Thomas (Tommy) Jarrell, 76, passed away on July 29, 2024.  He was born on September 1, 1947, to Claude and Juanita (Ammons) Jarrell.  He was raised in West Nashville.

Tommy served three years in the Army including two years in Vietnam.  Tommy was awarded several medals including the Purple Heart.  Tommy then went on to serve with the Metro Nashville Police Department for 37 years.  Most of his career was spent as a detective assigned to the Burglary section.  He primarily was assigned cases in West Nashville.  Tommy knew most everyone in West Nashville as well as knowing the area like the back of his hand.

Police work was more than just a job to Tommy. He truly enjoyed serving his community and helping others.  It was later learned after he retired, that numerous victims wrote letters to the Police Department praising his hard work on their cases.

An important part in Tommy’s life was when he converted to the Catholic faith.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Sarah Bruner; daughter, Marilyn (Pablo Perez); grandchildren, Sofia, Gabriela, and Isabel Perez; and sister, Sherry Dunn.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Star Ewing and the staff at the VA Nashville Hospital, and the staff at the Lodge at Natchez Trace who will be serving as honorary pallbearer’s.
