Bill’s story began in Nashville, where he grew up surrounded by the love of his family and the values that would guide him throughout his life. From Stokes School to Vanderbilt University, and then into a distinguished 28‑year career in the U.S. Army, Bill lived with purpose and honor. After retiring as a Lt. Colonel, he continued serving others through 39 dedicated years with the State of Tennessee.
He built a beautiful life with his wife, Gay, filled with travel, laughter, and shared memories that remained close to his heart long after her passing. Bill often spoke with gratitude for the family who shaped him and the blessings he experienced throughout his life.
In his later years, Bill found a new and unexpected chapter of love with Nancy McClendon. He stepped into her life during a time of deep grief after the loss of her daughter, Tiffanie, offering comfort and companionship. In Nancy, he found joy again—someone whose presence brought him peace, happiness, and a renewed sense of purpose. He looked forward to every moment they shared.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, and love. His memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.
We will greatly miss him.
